Creation!

Creation is a wonderful thing, The heavens and the earth display the glory of God. Creation was a team effort, so it also shows the handiwork of Jesus Christ who is the creator and sustainer of all things.

Colossians 1: 16-17

16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

As great as it is, if creation were a road, it would eventually have an end. It is the forecast of what is to come. It is subject to entropy and the second law of thermodynamics.

The second law of thermodynamics states that the total entropy of an isolated system can never decrease over time, and is constant if and only if all processes are reversible. Isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium, the state with maximum entropy. And what is entropy? This is a simple definition number two actually: lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.

"a marketplace where entropy reigns supreme"

In other words, all things eventually go from good to bad or bad to worse, Hot bath gets cold, Ice Melts, Bread Molds, Tomatoes rot, and bodies wear out. Decay, heard that word before? We are each living in a body that exists in a world and both are wearing out like an old T-shirt. Look around us, is there order or disorder? Things getting better or things getting worse?

You don't have to tell me I know the answer. I know something else too, that the world may be heading down a road that ends, but it is also heading for re-creation. Yes indeed, it along with us will be changed one day. It will be made new by our Lord and we will be too. Have you not heard that phrase "Oh Death Where is your Sting?" This is where it comes from:

1 Corinthians 15:50-58 New International Version (NIV)

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?

Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Heaven is waiting for us, if we are a child of God. Trying to make heaven on earth, well that is ultimately a waste of time and effort. Too many things change, we can't hold on to health, money, and certainly not happiness. Without trust in God, without putting the line of our lives in his hands, we are kites being blown about by the wind of despair, but if we put our hearts, soul and minds in his hands, well we will fly no matter what evil wind blows our way.

Psalm 102:18-28 New International Version (NIV)

18 Let this be written for a future generation,

that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:

19 “The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,

from heaven he viewed the earth,

20 to hear the groans of the prisoners

and release those condemned to death.”

21 So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion

and his praise in Jerusalem

22 when the peoples and the kingdoms

assemble to worship the Lord.

23 In the course of my life he broke my strength;

he cut short my days.

24 So I said:

“Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;

your years go on through all generations.

25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,

and the heavens are the work of your hands.

26 They will perish, but you remain;

they will all wear out like a garment.

Like clothing you will change them

and they will be discarded.

27 But you remain the same,

and your years will never end.

28 The children of your servants will live in your presence;

their descendants will be established before you.
