Nest In Your Hair

Diane at Merrit Island and a rare Scrub Jay 2007

A couple of years ago during the height of the COVID news avalanche, I finally had had enough. (I got to use the same two words in a row). I did not want to see or hear any more bad news, so I did something about it. I blocked Fox News on my pc so I could not go to the site myself. Reading what was posted there, all the "COULD BEs" "WORST EVERs" and "FEAR OFs" was just too much to take any longer. I made the decision that it was time to refocus my mind and heart in a better direction, to try to not let the world’s problems become my problem. Remember that old saying:

"It’s okay for a bird to fly over your head, but don't let it make a nest in your hair."

We all have problems, the world sure has problems, but that is really not new news, the world has always been in trouble from one cause or another but to the Almighty God they all add up to nothing more, to borrow another phrase, than a pimple on a flea.

God is Great, God is Glorious. We can't even begin to imagine just how Big and Wonderful he is, We should be Starstruck by His majesty. The known universe is estimated to be 14 billion light-years across with one light second at 186,000 miles per second. I can't even do the math to figure out just how many years, traveling at 289,927 miles per hour, the top speed that any man-made object has traveled, to go across the stars. Yet the prophet Isaiah says that God measures that distance with the space between his thumb and little finger.

What does this all boil down to?

Problems, Bad news, don't let them get you down, God can and will ultimately deal with them all, there is nothing so big that he is not bigger! We need to keep our eyes on Him and let His Spirit fill our hearts and mind. I promise you, it will make you feel a lot better. He will make you glad to be alive, now doesn't that sound like Good News?

Psalm 97: 1-12

1 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;

let the distant shores rejoice.

2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him;

righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3 Fire goes before him

and consumes his foes on every side.

4 His lightning lights up the world;

the earth sees and trembles.

5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,

before the Lord of all the earth.

6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,

and all peoples see his glory.

7 All who worship images are put to shame,

those who boast of idols—

worship him, all you gods!

8 Zion hears and rejoices

and the villages of Judah are glad

because of your judgments, Lord.

9 For you, Lord, are the Highest over all the earth;

you are exalted far above all gods.

10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,

for he guards the lives of his faithful ones

and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

11 Light shines on the righteous

and joy on the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,

and praise his holy name.
