Star Struck

Have you ever been starstruck? Have you ever met somebody who left you in awe, and in my case, so much so that you were speechless? I have on one or two occasions. As a rookie news cameraman, I had an experience like that when I met Danny Thomas, at his mansion along with his very beautiful daughter Terry. I was stunned by his very strong presence, the view from his "backyard" of Beverly Hills, the Hollywood HiIls, and Downtown LA. Both Mr. Thomas and his daughter were down-to-earth, nice folks, but to use the phrase "they were bigger than life" to me.

Now I have a question, for you and for me. When was the last time you were "starstruck" before the Lord God? How long has it been since we have seen Him for who he really is? Saying that God is "bigger than life" is quite an understatement when you think about it. He is the author of life, the creator of the universe, the one who numbers the hairs on our heads (a smaller number each day for me) and numbers our days too. He is the maker of the Grand Canyon (I was amazed and stunned by that place) who brings the sun up each morning, and brings a newborn baby into the world. He designed each and every flower on my lot. He created the woman I am married to. Nice job there God.

I am amazed by God, His loving-kindness, His power, His Glory, and by His Son. It is a good thing to Let Him know just how amazed we are.

Psalm 95: 1-11

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before him with thanks giving

and extol him with music and song.

3 For the Lord is the great God,

the great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,

and the mountain peaks belong to him.

5 The sea is his, for he made it,

and his hands formed the dry land.

6 Come, let us bow down in worship,

let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

7 for he is our God

and we are the people of his pasture,

the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,

8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,

as you did that day at Massahin the wilderness,

9 where your ancestors tested me;

they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;

I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,

and they have not known my ways.’

11 So I declared on oath in my anger,

‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
