Way Maker

Years ago, there was a song that Diane and I listened to. It must have been on one of our praise and worship albums, but I don’t remember. I do remember most of the words. The chorus sticks with me the most and it goes like this:

God will make a way

Where there seems to be no way

He works in ways we cannot see

He will make a way for me

He will be my guide

Hold me closely to His side

With love and strength for each new day

He will make a way, He will make a way

He will make a way where there seems to be no way. How many times over the years have Diane and I faced a situation that looked like a dead-end, with no way out? I can say many times. Each time God made a way. I may have been out of a job, broke, sick, or depressed, but each and every time, God made a way.

I have to think about the children of Isreal when all two million left Egypt and found themselves on the shores of the Red Sea. They had water in front of them and the army of the Pharaoh behind them. God made a way. He opened a three-mile-wide path through that sea so they could all pass across in one night. ONE night. Do you realize how impossible that was? Two million people cross a sea on foot in one night. That was some way that God made. Then he drowned the army that came after them, to wipe them off the face of the earth.

Once they crossed the sea they set up camp on 750 square miles of land. They had to be fed. It took 1500 tons of food a day to do that. To bring all this food in from somewhere would have taken a freight train, two miles long. At today’s prices, it would have taken over seven million dollars a day to pay for what they needed which included eleven million gallons of water each and every day also. God provided 750,000 quail a day to them after they complained there was no meat. They were tired of the two million gallons of manna that arrived outside their tents each and every morning. They could have been killed by an army or drowned, then they faced starvation and thirst but God made a way for them.

He can and will make a way for us too. He is bigger than our problems, which include but are not limited to inflation, with its high fuel prices, food for our families, our medical bills, and all the things that make us think God is not looking after us. Whatever sea you are in front of, God will make a way through it.

I am here to tell you that He is the Way Maker, and don’t you and I ever forget that.

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
Rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today

He will make a way

Psalm 93

The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;
    the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;
    indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
Your throne was established long ago;
    you are from all eternity.

The seas have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.

Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
    holiness adorns your house
    for endless days.
